Most Common Vinyl Windows Sizes

Standard window sizes are somewhat of a myth, as there is no industry-standard sizes for home windows. Some vinyl window manufacturers will have their own standard sizes, though many companies will create custom windows at no additional cost. In residential developments, a builder may choose several common vinyl windows sizes. However, in custom homes, window sizes may vary on the location and other considerations such as aesthetics, energy efficiency, and natural light.

Restrictions on vinyl window sizes are the same as restrictions any other type of home window. State and local building codes require egress windows for bedrooms and basements in case of an emergency. International Codes require an opening of 20 inches high and 24 inches wide, with a net clear opening of 5.7 square feet (5 feet for ground-floor bedrooms) so that a person or fully equipped fire fighter can fit through.

For vinyl windows that aren't egress windows, you can get a wide variety of sizes based on the style of window you choose. For example, one vinyl window manufacturer offers awning windows as small as 15 inches by 16 inches or as large as 4 feet and 6 inches by 3 feet. The style will determine the range of vinyl window sizes.
