Cooking Odors Fly Out the Window in This Kitchen

Why turn on that noisy ventilator fan when the bottom half of this kitchen window slides open to the smell of fresh-mown grass? This unique window has stationary panes up top, and a sliding lower half. The vertical wood muntin in the top half continues the high-ceiling look imparted by the extra tall cabinets with their Quaker-style frames. The black wood door knobs (as opposed to metal handles,) the sleek granite countertops, and the neutral color of the stainless steel appliances further enhances the simple, unadorned lines of the kitchen. Note, however, that the work triangle between sink, range, and refrigerator is ideal - just a few steps apart. The backsplash in soft natural colors that picks up the warmth of the wood is easy to clean. Opting for white for the window frame gives an understated accent, though the frame's crown moldings echo the cabinets. All in all, a simple, splendid design.
