- A ladder
- A drill
- A putty knife
- Latex caulking
Install Double Pane Windows: 6-Step Instructions
1. Measure Double Pane Windows for Fit
Measure the new window frames and the window openings to ensure that the double pane windows will line up and fit tightly.
2. Mark Double Pane Windows with a Taped 'X'
For safety purposes, tape an "X" on both sides of the window. In case there's an accident, the taped "X" will help to contain some of the broken glass, helping clean-up and preventing injury.
3. Caulk the Double Pane Windows Frame
Apply a bead of latex-based caulking along the entire window frame to guarantee an airtight and waterproof fit.
4. Install the Double Pane Windows
Fit the double pane windows into the frame. A helper will ensure safety and ease of operation. Once in the window space, inserts each screw from the double pane windows hardware kit using a drill.
5. Establish the Double Pane Windows Trim
You have two options here: either replace the original window trim or install new trim. Paint or stain any new trim before installation. Cover any screw or nail head holes with wood putty.
6. Test the Double Pane Windows
Test the double pane windows to make sure they open and close properly. Then remove the tape and clean the window on both sides.
